15 Deadliest Serial Killers in History

There have been many serial killers in history. There are countless examples of such individuals who have committed inhumane crimes. Then again, some have stolen the show by drawing attention to the heinous crimes against humanity.

One horrible truth that psychologists have discovered through their research may sum up all of their findings: given the right circumstances, anyone can turn into a serial killer. The following list includes some of the most heinous and infamous serial killers ever to exist:

Ted Bundy: The Crazy Necrophile

He was an American serial killer, kidnapper, rapist, and necrophile. He admitted to killing 30 women while operating in different US states. He returned to crime scenes and had sex with the bodies there.

At least 12 victims had their heads severed by Bundy, who displayed them in his apartment as trophies. In 1989, Bundy, 42, passed away in the electric chair. Ted, in the words of his defense lawyer, “was the very definition of heartless evil.”

Luis Garavito: The Beast

The Colombian, who has also been referred to by the media as Le Bestia (The Beast), is arguably one of the worst serial killers in history. He admitted to torturing, raping, and killing 147 young boys.

However, it’s thought that there are more than 300. On account of the 139 counts on which he was found guilty, he should serve 1,853 years in prison.

However, the maximum sentence allowed by Columbian law is 30 years, which is the amount to which he was found guilty in 1999. Because of his cooperation and good behaviour, he might be released sooner.

Alexander Pichushkin: The Chessboard Killer

He also went by the names “Chessboard Killer” and “Bitsa Park Maniac.” He used vodka to entice the homeless men he was after to his home. He is thought to have killed 49 people, the majority of whom he repeatedly struck in the head with a hammer before stuffing a vodka bottle into the gaping skull wound.

At first, he claimed that his goal was to murder 64 people or all the squares on a chessboard. Additionally, it’s thought that he was rivalling another Russian serial killer, Andrei Chikatilo, who was found guilty in 1992 of 53 murders. Alexander began killing the very same year that it happened.

Andrei Chikatilo: The Butcher

According to Andrei, the ‘butcher of Rostov’, “using my knife provided psychological relief.” I am aware that I must perish. It was a natural error. Between 1978 and 1990 in Russia, he was accountable for the sexual assault, murder, and mutilation of 53 women and children.

He was apprehended in 1992, and in 1994, a firing squad execution was mandated.

Dennis Raider: BTK Murderer

Dennis Raider murdered 10 people in Wichita, Kansas, between 1974 and 1991. Even worse, he used the alias BTK, which stood for “Bind, Torture, Kill,” to send letters of taunt to the police. He stalked his victims before breaking into their homes, tying their hands and feet together, and then strangling them.

He vanished in 1988 but reappeared around 2005 after sending a floppy disc to the media that assisted in locating him. With the earliest release date of February 26, 2160, Rader is serving 10 consecutive life sentences after confessing to his crimes.

Aileen Wuornos: The Monster

Charlize Theron’s tale helped her win an Academy Award. In the movie “Monster” from 2003, she portrayed Aileen.

Aileen killed seven men in Florida while working as a prostitute for their money and then confessed to shooting them, saying they had all either raped her or tried to rape her. The lethal injection caused her death in 1992.

John Wayne Gacy: The King of the Grave

Between 1972 and 1978, Gacy operated in Chicago, Illinois. 33 teenage boys and young men were killed and subjected to sexual assault by him. With the promise of work or money, Gacy would entice his victims to his house where he would strangle them to death with a tourniquet.

He later dumped the bodies in the Des Plaines River after burying 26 of his victims in the crawl space under his home. Gacy served 14 years on death row after being found guilty of 33 murders and receiving a death sentence.

The Zodiac Killer

He’s one of the well-known serial killers. The murderer gave himself this moniker in mocking letters to the Bay Area Press. Only one of the four cyphers he sent for decoding was unquestionably solved.

In the late 1960s and early 1970s, the murderer was active in California. Me-37 and SFPD-0, according to his most recent letter to, San Francisco Police Department. He claimed to have murdered 37 people, but only seven were confirmed by the media. The case file is still active.

Harold Shipman: Dr Death

At least 218 patients are thought to have died at the hands of Harold Shipman, also known as “Dr Death,” though the actual number is probably closer to 250. Between 1972 and 1998, this doctor worked in two different offices while maintaining his London-based practice and killing.

He wasn’t discovered until several people raised a red flag, including an undertaker who was shocked by the number of cremation certificates Shipman was involved in and the fact that the majority of the cases involved elderly women who were discovered to have passed away in bed during the day rather than at night.

Shipman continued killing until he became greedy and attempted to create a will for a victim named him beneficiary, and police handled the investigation poorly.

Pedro Lopez

One of the most prolific serial killers in history may be still at large. More than 300 homicides in Pedro Lopez’s native Colombia, as well as in Ecuador and Peru, have been connected to him. Tribal women made up at least one-third of those murder victims.

Police discovered the graves of more than 50 of Lopez’s teenage victims after his arrest in 1980. Later, after confessing to 240 additional murders in Colombia and Peru, he was found guilty of killing 110 girls in Ecuador.

The “Monster of the Andes” was released in 1998 for good behaviour, so he didn’t even serve 20 years in prison. His whereabouts have remained a mystery for more than 20 years.

Richard Ramirez

Richard Ramirez terrorized Los Angeles neighborhoods for more than a year in the 1980s.

Ramirez, who went by the moniker “Night Stalker,” would break into people’s homes and brutally murder them, sometimes after raping them first. He preyed on people as young as 20 and as old as 79. He preferred knives, machetes, tire irons, handguns, and even hammers as weapons.

Ramirez never apologized for the crimes he committed. He was given a death sentence but passed away from lymphoma before he could be put to death.

Gary Ridgway

After confessing to the murder of 49 women between the 1980s and 1990s, he was given a life sentence in prison in 2003. The Green River Killer, also known as Ridgway, terrorised Seattle, killing the majority of his victims by strangling them.

He would dispose of their corpses in landfills and along the Green River before occasionally going back to have sex with them. It took almost 20 years before DNA evidence connected him to the crimes. In 2001, police arrested him.

Gheorghe Dinca

In the case involving the abduction, rape, and murder of two teenage girls in the Olt County town of Caracal, he received a 30-year prison term. Dinca and an alleged accomplice, Stefan Risipitianu, were summoned to court in 2020 on charges of aggravated murder, rape, desecration of corpses, human trafficking, and child trafficking.

In Romania, the maximum sentence that can be given to a person over the age of 65 is 30 years. Dinca admitted that he killed six young women.

Yang Xinhai: Monster Killer

He also goes by the moniker “Monster Killer.” When questioned about his actions, he admitted: “I had a desire to kill people. I became more violent after that. Whether they deserve to live or not is irrelevant to me. It doesn’t matter to me at all.

I don’t want to be a part of society. “Society is not my concern,” declared the BBC in 2004. This is what Yang Xinhai said in response to the question of why he killed 67 people and sexually assaulted 23 women in an interview that was broadcast on China’s Central Television following Yang’s trial (BBC News, 2004).

Charles Manson

He was an American criminal who led the Manson Family cult in a murderous campaign, making him one of the most notorious figures in criminal history.

The notorious Charles Manson was given the death penalty in 1971, but the following year, his sentence was commuted to life in prison for his involvement in the brutal murders of pregnant actress Sharon Tate and other Hollywood residents.
