Doug Smith Obituary, Death Cause – After receiving his degree in 1984, he immediately found work at The Hartford, and this is where he has spent the majority of his professional life. After more than 30 years of service with the organization, he stepped down from his position as Vice President of Underwriting in 2017. Doug met Kathleen, the woman who would become the love of his life, while he was back in his hometown after attending Union College.
They went on to have a happy marriage and two boys, James Blair, 32, and Michael Dayton, 30, who were the shining stars in their lives. The young family uprooted and relocated to Granby, where they raised their two sons and were extremely active in all of their pursuits throughout those years. Doug had been a member of the Granby/Simsbury Rotary Club for a very long period and during that time he held numerous leadership positions within the club, including the post of President.
The life of Doug Smith has ended. Today, July 11th, at approximately 5:30 o’clock in the evening, Doug Smith will be removed from the ventilator. Tonight at six o’clock, we will begin accepting organ donors. Every organ in the body is suitable for donation. I ask that you pray for each of the recipients. Following his graduation from high school, Doug enrolled in Union College, making him the third member of his family to do so.
