Darrell Nelson Obituary, Death Cause – On August 13, 2023, Darrell W. Nelson, a beloved member of the Pittsfield community, passed away unexpectedly at a local hospital. He was born in Dexter, Maine, on September 18, 1946, to proud parents, Phillip and Muriel (Crocker) Nelson. His life was one filled with dedication, hard work, and a deep love for the outdoors. Darrell’s journey began in the charming town of Dexter, where he spent his childhood and graduated from Dexter High School. His strong work ethic and passion for mechanics led him to a career that spanned over 45 years as a machinist-millwright at Pride Manufacturing Company in Guilford.

Outside of his career, Darrell was an active member of the community. He was a proud member of the Meridian Splendor Masonic Lodge of Newport and a dedicated member of the Anah Shrine of Bangor. These affiliations reflected his commitment to camaraderie and service. One of Darrell’s greatest joys was found in the great outdoors. He had an affinity for fishing that was unmatched. Whether he was casting a line into a tranquil lake or sharing fishing tales with friends and family, his love for nature was evident.

Darrell leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. He is survived by his son, Scott Nelson, and his partner Melissa Cookson of Guilford, as well as his daughter, Lynn Soucie, and her husband Alan of Leeds. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Carmen Nelson of Newport. Four grandchildren, Andrew Bennett, Dayna Bennett, Mathew Nelson, and Ryan Graffam, along with four great-grandchildren, Bryson, Brady, Colton, and Owen, will forever cherish their time with him.
