8th-grader shot and killed, 16-year-old in custody
An eighth-grade student died after being shot in the Hoy Community on Wednesday afternoon, and the Jones County Sheriff’s Department has a teen suspect in custody.
Antwon Thames, 15, was pronounced dead at South Central Regional Medical Center, Deputy Coroner Ernest Hollingsworth reported. The teen was an eighth-grader at Northeast Jones Middle School.
He was shot in the front yard of a home in Windsor Court, witnesses said. The suspect — believed to be a 16-year-old student — was taken into custody a short time later at a nearby residence.
